Do you get blurred vision after a few hours of scleral lens wear? You put them in and your vision is sharp, and the longer you wear them, the foggier your vision gets. If you experience this, you may have Midday Fogging. This occurs when debris from the tear film gets under the lens and becomes stuck, building up over time. Scleral lenses are inserted with saline to create a reservoir of fluid between the cornea and the contact lens, and when it becomes filled with debris, vision will become cloudy. This happens when there is not a perfect seal between the eye and the contact. Many times, this can be alleviated with a better fitting contact lens, however, depending on your scleral lens manufacturer and the shape of your eye, it may not always be possible to get a perfect seal. In these cases, it is appropriate to remove the lens after a few hours and refill with fresh saline. You may also elect to instill a few drops of a thicker, more viscous drop, like Refresh Celluvisc, into the bowl after filling with saline. This increases the thickness of the liquid in the contact lens reservoir, making it more difficult for debris to enter the space under the lens.
