I have deemed 2025 the year of scleral lenses. Every educational opportunity that is presented to take my skillset to the next level, to better the experience for my scleral lens patients- I am going to take it. In May, I spent two days at the world-renowned scleral lens site, BostonSight. A group of twelve scleral lens fitters from around the world spent two days learning from each other, sharing cases, and fitting patients with large diameter scleral lenses. Rules that I once thought were set it stone were shattered, fitting philosophies were challenged, limits were pushed. We toured the lab to see how lenses are created- and it is a much cooler (and cleaner) process than I ever expected. I met brilliant colleagues and made connections with fitters from all over the globe.
My take home was that I am trying way too hard to make every lens picture perfect. Problems we once thought are problems are not anymore. I learned newer, more efficient ways to document, and even got a brand-new fittings set of large diameter scleral lenses.
This was an experience I will cherish forever. Thank you Boston Sight!
