EyePrint Pro!

Over the past ten years, so much has changed about scleral lenses. When I started fitting specialty lenses in 2016, lens options were limited. Ten years later, standard lenses are now incredibly customizable, almost too customizable. While these lenses work well for the vast majority of specialty lens patients, sometimes there are obstacles that cannot be overcome. Even the best scanning technology cannot provide lenses that are an acceptable fit to the patient or doctor. This is where impressions come into play.
EyePrint Pro is an impression-based lens. You heard that right, an impression... of your eye. You know that blue goop you bite down on at the dentist? We shove that into your eye to get a perfect mold. The most custom lens you could ever have. Don't worry- it's actually a painless procedure and quite comfortable.
Who would need such a customized lens? I'm so glad you asked. These lenses are great for patients with severely irregular corneas, especially those that don't tolerate traditional lens designs. Patients with very steep and protruding eyes- some lens manufacturers just can't cut lenses deep enough or steep enough with their machines. These lenses are also great for patients with lid closure issues- history of Bell's Palsy, Acoustic Neuroma, brain aneurysms and tumors affecting the nerves to the eye, neurotrophic keratitis or neuropathic pain, post trauma and burn victims, or Steven Johnson's patients.
There are so many patients out there who have been told there is nothing else that can be done. That glasses, soft contact lenses, RGPs, or traditional scleral lenses don't help them, or to constantly lubricate the eye, but this could be an option.
I have decided to bring EyePrint Pro to McConkey Eye Care to open up our services to more patients. Additionally, there are currently no EyePrint Pro providers in Harford County, Cecil County, or the entire state of Delaware. These patients need and deserve care. They deserve access to better vision and comfort.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading, and thank you for sharing this journey with me.
