A real solution for dry eye disease arising from MGD (Meibomian Gland Dysfunction)
McConkey Eye Care is the Only Office in Harford County to Offer the Only FDA Approved IPL Machine, OptiLight
Intense Pulsed Light
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It is a non-invasive procedure that uses pulses of light to stimulate and improve the function of the miebomian glands in the eyelids, which are responsible for producing the top layer of the tear film that prevents tears from evaporating too quickly, thereby alleviating dry eye symptoms by enhancing tear quality.
Reduce Inflammatory Mediators: Decrease the level of pro-inflammatory mediators to inhibit inflammation
Improve Tear Breakup Time: Significantly boost tear break up time and decrease osmolarity
Alleviate Abnormal Blood Vessels: Destroy the abnormal blood vessels that perpetuate inflammation
Restore Meibomian Glands: Improve meibomian gland morphology and functionality
Decrease Demodex: Decrease the population of Demodex Mites, which stimulate infection and boost the bacterial load on eyelids.

OptiLIFT
Powered by Lumenis' proprietary non-invasive DMSt technology, OptiLIFT tones and stimulates the periorbital muscles to address lower eyelid function and provide a tighter look.
Dr. McConkey has preached for years that blinking is arguably the most important factor related to dry eye. This technology finally addresses the underlying issue of incomplete lid closure and inefficient blink.
Improves Blink: Clinically proven to enhance blinking efficiency by 70%
Increases TBUT: Tear break up time it takes for tears to evaporate off of the front surface of the eye. OptiLIFT improves TBUT by 286%
Improves Lower Lid Laxity: Tightening the lower eyelid improves tear production and prevents exposure issues

RINSADA
When you do not produce enough tears, your eyelid traps inflammation, pollutants and allergens onto your eyeball. Rinsada uses high flow irrigation to remove ocular surface irritants & inflammation.
Rinsada uses high pressure saline targeted underneath the eyelid and in the deep recess called the fornix where normal rinsing can not reach.
Complete Cleansing: Flushes away allergens, bacteria, and inflammatory proteins for immediate relief
Quick and Simple: Non-invasive in-office procedure. Perfect for dry eye, allergies, and contact lens wearers
Zest Eyelid Cleaning
ZEST (Zocular Eyelid System Treatment) is a cutting-edge procedure designed to thoroughly clean the eyelids and remove debris that contributes to dry eye syndrome. This treatment targets and eliminates bacteria and other particles that can clog the meibomian glands, improving tear production and eye comfort.
During a ZEST session, a specialized gel is applied to the eyelids and gently massaged to cleanse the area. This process helps restore the natural function of the meibomian glands, reducing inflammation and enhancing the quality of tears produced. The result is significant relief from dry eye symptoms and improved overall eye health.
Thorough Eyelid Cleaning: Removes debris and bacteria that contribute to dry eye symptoms.
Improves Tear Production: Enhances the function of the meibomian glands, leading to better tear quality.
Reduces Inflammation: Alleviates redness and irritation around the eyes.
Increases Comfort: Provides relief from dryness and discomfort, improving daily activities.
Non-Invasive Procedure: A simple, quick treatment with no downtime.
Long-Lasting Relief: Many patients experience sustained improvement in eye health and comfort.
These benefits make ZEST treatment s a highly effective option for managing dry eye syndrome and improving overall eye health.

PUNCTAL OCCLUSION
Tears drain through a hole in your eyelid called the puncta, down the nose and back of your throat. Patients who do not product enough tears can benefit from having their drain occluded.
Not all dry eye patients are good candidates for punctal occlusion. Before having any punctal occlusive therapies, you should always have a tear production test (shirmers) to prevent excessive tearing after the procedure.
There are many ways to occlude the puncta including collagen and silicone punctal plugs, hyaluronic acid (filler), or cauterization.
Amniotic Membrane
Amniotic membrane (AM) transplantation is a treatment option for dry eye disease, particularly for severe cases or when other treatments are insufficient. It involves using a thin, biological membrane derived from the amniotic sac, placenta, or umbilical cored to promote healing and reduce inflammation on the ocular surface.
Application: There are many ways to apply amniotic tissue to the ocular surface including dehydrating membrane, cryopreserved membrane, and a rehydrated powder.
Importance of Timing: While amniotic membrane is life changing for many patients, it needs to be timed correctly. Amniotic membrane heals damaged corneal tissue, if the underlying cause(s) and inflammation are not controlled, the results will not last. Amniotic membrane is also frequently used in emergency situations like corneal ulcers and trauma to the eye.

Scleral Lenses
Scleral contact lenses are hard contact lenses that vault over the cornea and provide protection and lubrication to the eye. They are used for a wide variety of conditions like keratoconus and corneal scarring to provide better vision, but also provide relief to dry eye patients.
